CEO Wheelchair Challenge
Protect's Michael Connolly spent the day in a wheelchair as part of the DSR "CEO Wheelchair Challenge" to raise awareness for accessibility, inclusion, and the rights of people with disabilities.
So how did he go?
Things I've had to find out for myself today at work included:
Do we have a disabled toilet on this floor?
Yes... but why is the door so heavy?
Will I make it through the revolving door?
Yes... after discovering the 'slow' button
Will I be able to make a coffee?
Yes... after lots of back and forth between the benchtop, sink and fridge
Can I carry the coffee back to my desk?
Yes... but very slowly and awkwardly. This was the trickiest part of the day but my loins are unscolded.
I've also discovered all the very narrow spots in our office. I've noticed that the office is tidy - there's no stuff on the floor which would make it a nightmare. Adjustable desks are helping with accessibility too.
DONATE:
Besides experiencing a day in a wheelchair, the idea is to fund raise for DSR. If you can spare a dime, there is a fundraising page here which includes more details about the challenge.
